Hmmm... a hard nut to crack - I am sure I have heard that saying somewhere before.

To make my new favourite Nut easier for you to see, I found this picture below for you all. I am thinking of asking Janie to make it really big and printing it out so I could put it up in my bedroom. Then when I am feeling hungry I can just nibble on the poster as a snack

So what are these wonderful new nuts I here you ask... well let me introduce you to Cedar Nuts, which are the seeds of the Swiss Pine. See how knowledgeable I am? And do you know what the very best thing about them are, that whenever Stuart and Janie are watching a program on the telly, if I make enough noise, they give me one to shut me up. Tee Hee !!!

Stuart and Janie think they are making me be quiet, I think I am getting a Cedar Nut whenever I fancy one... what do you all think?
It was passed on to me, by Stuart, that some of my fans were getting a little restless as they hadn't had an update from the favourite African Grey, so here I am blogging just for you... you know who you are.

Well have no fear, I am fine and dandy, and beginning to look quite smart again, my feathers are beginning to grow back in nicely, though I am STILL losing the occasional one or two. As you can see I have to remain vigilant in my grooming habits, and have absolutely no trouble in reaching those hard to reach nooks and crannies that we all have.

I also have to keep on top of things as Stuart keeps using me as a feather duster by turning me upside down and spinning me around on the table on my back... most undignified. So keeping clean is number one on my list of things to do these days...

Well actually number two after eating - I love to eat as you know... and possible three after playing... oh and four after making lots and lots of noise. Oh well, keeping clean is on my list somewhere... toodle pip !!!
Strange things are happening, strange and disturbing things, strange, disturbing and slightly scary things.

I am falling to bits !!!

Janie keeps telling me that I am making a mess with my very first moult, but just look at the size of that feather in the picture, 20 cm's long, I can't afford to lose something that big from my body can I? I am going to end up naked, how embarrassing.

This morning, Stuart caught Welly, the Cesky Terrier chewing on yet another feather of this size!!!! He told Welly off, that he shouldn't eat Darwin !!!!!!!!!! Welly was eating me.. Wah !!!

Breath slowly in - out - in - out...

I am falling to bits !!!

What am I to do?

Can't write any more, it's all to much.
It also, as the best stories do, has a moral as well, I know, I know, it's so exciting!!!

Are you ready? Then let us begin.

One day, not so long ago, Janie decided that as I loved Pomegranate (Pom Poms) so much, she would buy me a whole fruit, instead of the usual seeds in a tub she buys from the supermarket. She carefully, yes knives can be sharp boys and girls - not a sharp as my beak - but that is a different story, cut the fruit in half, stuck half on one of my fruit hanging skewers and hung the fruit in my cage.

She then, wheeled my cage into the front room, as she was going to do something or other on the computer, and proceeded to leave me to it.

I ate my Pom Pom.

Janie sat at her computer.

I ate my Pom Pom some more.

Janie sat on her computer some more.

Repeat until bored.....

Finally the Pom Pom half was gone and Janie got up to check on me... the photo above is a recreation of what she found. Or as she said after, 'The Crime Scene'.

The curtains were covered in Pom Pom pink, the net curtains were covered, the wall was pink, the paintwork was pink, so was the radiator, the fish tank, my whole cage and even the window itself. I had done a good job of spreading Pom Pom around.

Janie quickly moved my cage and got down the curtains and the nets to wash them before they stained, she cleaned the windows and washed down the paintwork and the radiator... I have never seen her work so hard...

All the time she kept saying... 'Oh Darwin!!!' As if it was my fault!!!!! Was I the one who gave me the Pom Pom in the first place???

Oh yes the moral of the story...

Never give Pom Pom fruit to Darwin's inside the house.

I think by the look of Janie's face it is a moral she will never forget.

Until next time,

Of course you do, because I know my good mood will make all my readers feel 100% better about not having me in their lives on a daily basis. Well let me tell you a story...

Sunday was Stuart's birthday, he got lots of presents and lots of cards, and then he and Janie went out for the day and left me all alone, well apart from my radio, which you all know how much I love listening to. There was a lot about something called the Eurovision, something called Blue did not do as well as they had expected. I could of told them their mistake, should of called themselves Grey, and they would of been a runaway success. Honestly, you can't tell people sometimes!!!!!

Anyway, I digress, it seems that Stuart was born on the same day his Mum was, which confuses me a little, as I am sure that would make them brother and sister, but maybe humans think differently about such things, they are very strange you know.

Anyway, I digress again, the next day Stuart went to work, and he came home with a surprise from some very nice people called Val and Jonathan, they had given him a card AND TWO presents. Stuart opened the card, and I thought, 'WOW, that looks good for a nibble or two later'. In the card, Val or Jonathan had written, 'P.S. Pressie really for Darwin, but I'm sure he'll share'. There was some other stuff written but that wasn't important, I did my impatient dance as Stuart opened the first pressie, a packet of flaked almonds, my favourite nuts, wow weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!

The second pressie was a huge bag of mixed nuts and dried fruits, which I soon stuck my head in to see what was what. As you can see from the pictures, Stuart gave me a huge dried apricot, it was as big as my head, he then tipped the rest of the bag into one of those horrid plastic containers with a lid. I can chew open bags, but not those containers, yet!!!! Stuart says that my pressie will keep nice and fresh in the container, but I think he did it so he could sneak one of MY nuts or fruits when he thinks I am not looking!!!!

The pressies were very nicely wrapped, thank you very much, and I particularly liked this nice cream coloured bow, that was on top of one of them. The other had a bow as well, but it was red, I don't like the colour red, it clashes with my bum, but, this one, the cream bow was lovely.

It tasted good too!!!

Thank you very much Val and Jonathan for my lovely pressies, but please remember in future,

It's written on a blog somewhere, so it's got to be true.
I totally enjoyed the wedding, you know of William and Catherine. I was listening on the radio, I have my own, a little DAB that I listen to all the time. I like Radio 2, and I often sing along. I REALLY liked it when the sang 'Jerusalem', at the wedding, I whistled and squawked along. Janie was most impressed I can tell. She even gave me an almond to show how pleased she was. Of course I couldn't sing along while eating my almond, and I do truly love almonds, they are a favourite of mine.

I ate my almond very quickly so I could start singing again, but I didn't get another almond, even though I sang as loudly as I could. Ah well, maybe next time. I can't wait for the next wedding on the radio, such fun.
See what happens when you don't look where you put your feet? Ripped part of my toenail off... and it hurt!!!! You know the saying that 'a little blood goes a long way'? Well it certainly does when you have wings, on the floor, the walls, the ceiling, furniture, curtains, carpet, Stuart and Janie!!! You name it, I splattered it good and proper.

Despite Stuart and Janie's best efforts, my foot kept bleeding so it was off to the vet, she was very nice, said that I should not worry, and that I was a big bird and I hadn't lost to much blood. She fixed my foot by rubbing a tiny stick on it, weird huh? Not that I forgave her for the big bird comment, I am not big, I am just well muscled, all that flying I do.

Anyway, it's all forgotten now, well by me anyway. I am busy getting on with my very first moult, which takes me a lot of time and effort, especially making sure my feathers fall all over the place. I love seeing Janie vacuum, in fact I love it so much I went for a ride while she cleaned and pooped on it. Took Stuart and Janie ages to clean it off. Such fun.
As you can see I have some new toys to demolish, I had great fun unwrapping my Christmas presents, to be honest they were more fun than the actual things inside, but you have to keep up appearances don't you or they might stop buying me stuff.

I spent some time with Stuart's Mum and Dad over Christmas, my large holiday cage had been set up for me, it was wonderful. I even gave Janie and Stuart a couple of presents myself, two new phrases that I had been practising especially for them...

'Look at you' and 'What ya' doing?'
They seem pretty happy, doesn't take much, good job I didn't recite the book, 'War and Peace' to them or I am not sure what might have happened. I shall keep quiet about that until a later date.

Until next time,
This will be my first Christmas and I have been helping Janie and Stuart wrap some presents. It was great fun, especially them chasing me around the room trying to get the sticky tape back I had stolen.

I think there is even a couple of presents under the tree for me, ohhhhhhhhhhhhh... I can't wait.
Honestly it took Janie ages to calm me down, and then, the sky began to fall in, huge white flakes where falling down to join the mess already on the ground. It was disgusting, and looked sooooooooo cold.

I was really happy to be inside, all warm and safe. Honestly it's a complete jungle out there at the moment.

Janie said that we could go outside to build something called a 'snowman', it seems you bundle all the white stuff up and make a replica of a person. Honestly she is so strange at times, she put a carrot on the table and said we could use it as a nose. I looked at the carrot, and thought that it really didn't look like a nose, even the overly big nose that Janie has.

So when Janie went to put on her coat, I did the only thing that I could to show Janie that this was not a nose but a carrot.
I can make a scrapbook as well, or at least I can take a book and turn it into scrap pretty darn quickly tee hee...

This is the first page she made, with one of the first photographs she took of me. Don't I look so cute, as if butter wouldn't melt in my mouth as Janie often says of me, which is strange as we all know that butter would melt in your mouth, so why she says it I don't know??? But then I can't figure out half of what Janie is saying anyway, it's all gobledegook to me.

It's just a short and tweet post today, but will be back again soon...

Hello again, todays lesson is in the Art of Destruction. Some may say that it takes time, patience and a lot of know how to destroy anything, I say, it doesn't. Destroying anything is actually quite easy, be it chairs, wall paper, curtains, tables, cooker hobs, plastic containers or curtain poles, as seen in the picture above.

I love to swoop down on an unsuspecting Janie, if she is sitting and reading one of her crafty magazines, oh what fun to grab a page and rips bits of it out. As I have said previously about food what's mine is mine and what's yours is mine to, this actually applies to everything in the house, it all belongs to me. I can eat, chew or poo on everything, and I do it all with great abandon.

Sometimes, when I poo on Stuart he gets a little tetchy, and tells me off and puts me back in my cage. I just ignore this bad behaviour and eat a little food and wait until he lets me out again. I always forgive him, I haven't owned him that long and I am still training him.

Don't I look good for my age? As you can see I am enjoying life, my flying is really coming on now, and just to annoy Stuart and Janie I always try to land on their heads. They do so hate me to do that, but I find it so funny, especially when I hang on to the hair really tightly when they try to get me down. Such a laugh!!!

As you can see Janie has given me my own Piggy Bank to save up my pocket money. She says that I cost to much and that I will have to start supporting myself. I tried to explain that, that was what my wings were for, but she was having none of it.

It seems we are very expensive to maintain, besides the cost of buying me, and buying my cage. There are food costs, vet costs, toy costs and cleaning costs. Having a Grey or any bird in your home is something you should not undertake lightly it seems. We are not cheap, but we are lovable (mostly), but anyone considering buying one of my feathered chums, should really think hard before going ahead. As a wise man once said, 'Polly wants a cracker'. Not sure what that has to do with things, but it is a very wise saying you must agree.

Anyway, I really must get on with trying to work out how this Piggy Bank thing works, I am sure there is a nut in there if only I could work out how to get to it. Polly might want a cracker, but Darwin's prefer nuts!!!

Today Janie was eating a pear, I wanted it, Janie gave me a piece, I wanted hers. We had a battle, Janie gave me what was left of her pear. This is what happened to it. It was on the walls, on the chairs, on the floor, on Janie, it was wonderful.

You see I have discovered in the months since I have been born, that getting air to food is very important to getting the taste just right. So the more I throw the food about the better it tastes. Janie sometimes gives me odd looks, but one day I know, she will learn this valuable lesson.

Oh before I go and get on with a little more eating I have compliled a short list of food that I should never eat, there are bound to be more, so before feeding me a new thing Janie always checks to see if it is safe for me. She is good like that.

Bad for Me
I have been having such fun lately, as you can see my flying is coming on in leaps and bounds, I just love it. I have told both Stuart and Janie that I do not want my wings clipped, I love to fly, and they agree with me, though in this photo of my coming into land on Janie's camera, you can't really see my wings to well, they were flapping to fast for the camera.

Maybe you can see in the background my play area window has expanded a little, with a hanging climbing frame, and another hanging bamboo pipe the other side of my Boing, you can't see it though as it's not in this picture. My Boing also has a foraging toy near the top now so I can look for some food in it when I feel hungry, which is most of the time. I like food!!! Especially if someone else is eating it, that's the best food there is.

The photo also gives you another good view of my tail feathers, imagine what they will look like when they are bright red all over!!!! I just can't wait. Life is so good. Till next time.
I am sitting on my Sisal Boing, Sisal is a very good material for making ropes for us birds, just be aware to make sure that the rope hasn't been treated with anything bad for us before buying. The red round thing just above me is called a Bagel, and it wonderful for chewing on, they come in so many different colours and sizes. It's made from cardboard which is brilliant for tearing to bits, almost as good as wallpaper and carpet, oh, and curtains, especially those net curtains you can see in the photo, almost !!!

The reason why I chose this photo, was not really my toys, though I do love showing my things off. The real reason was to show off my bum and those wonderful tail feathers of mine. I am only a young Congo, you can tell this by the darkish grey tips to my red tail feathers. When I moult for the first time, my tail feathers will come back as the brilliant bright red of an adult, not that I will be an adult when that happens, it will just be a step towards being grown up.

Before I go I have to say a big thank you to Sandy O... she commented on Janie's blog about me as she couldn't find the comments section on here. Thank you Sandy, I so love people to like me.
Janie says that my feet are beautiful and when you look at this picture I am sure you will agree. Feet are funny things though, Janie's toes look like little pink sausages, whilst mine are much more useful, long and slender and ending with a wonderful nail.

Did you know that my nails should be a perfect quarter of a circle in shape? Mine are just right, and should stay that way as long as I look after them properly. Janie filed the very tips of them off, she said they were hurting when I sat on her, which was funny as I never felt a thing. To file my nails, she put a large foot file on the table to let me get used to it, as sometimes I can be scared of new things. Where my family originally came from, 'strange things' can sometimes eat you, so it is best to be wary.

Now I am happy with the file, Janie rubs a nail at a time on the foot file, it doesn't hurt but feels a bit strange, it took time but all things happen with patience. All you have to do is file the very tip of our nails away, never file to much as we need them for gripping perches.

Often Janie brings out the file just to pretend to do my nails, she thinks I might forget for when I need them doing again, honestly, humans are odd at times, but you got to love them.
I am a Congo African Grey, or as some humans say, a CAG. I live in the U.K. with my parents Stuart and Janie who worship me and allow me to do everything I want, whenever I want.
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Today happens to be my birthday, I am 18 weeks old today, and I have lived with my parents for 5 weeks yesterday so we are still getting used to each other. On Saturday I went to visit a vet for the first time, it was a scary experience at first as we had to travel in a car for almost an hour to get there. It seems that good birdy vets can be hard to find, which does not seem right to me, vets should learn more about us.

I really enjoyed the car journey after I got used to it, and the vet was really nice. She really grilled my parents about good bird housekeeping, she knew her business and my parents managed to answer most questions as they had done there homework before I came to live with them. I then had an examination, which wasn't to bad, and the lady vet said I was in wonderful condition. and a really nice young Grey. I would of told her that, had she asked.
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Will write more soon,
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">
